Today we have seen the film "La tête en friche" by
Jean Becker. Germain Chazes – acted by Gérard Depardieu – is a man in his 50’s
who is not well educated. He’s been humiliated since his childhood both by his
mother and his teachers and spends most of his time at the pub, drinking .His
mother hates him, she is crazy.
One day he meets an old lady : Margueritte (with a
double T) in a park where she regularly feeds birds (played by Gisèle
Casadesus) . Margueritte has a
passion – books, and with patience and conviction she teaches Germain to read
and enjoy books. For example, she reads out loud “La Peste” by Camus and he imagines the
scenes.
Little by little a very strong relationship starts
between those 2 characters and when Margueritte is transferred to Belgium by her relatives Germain
realizes that he can’t live without her and takes her back to where she used to
live.
The moral of this story is that everybody has a form
of intelligence deep inside, we
just need to believe in ourselves.
