OUR SEMINAR ON STE MARGUERITE ISLAND

We arrived on the island Wednesday September 18th at 9 am. First, we walked to the Fort to drop our bags and to see our rooms. The Fort is constituted of a museum, dormitories, a self-service and classrooms.

Breakfast was at 8:15, lunch at 12:30 and dinner at 7:30.

Then we walked around the island and stopped on a beautiful beach to have our lunch, a picnic.

THE  ISLAND:

It is 2,300 m long and 950 m large. It’s covered with 95% of forest and a legend says that the 2 islands ( Ste Marguerite and St Honorat) are connected via an underground tunnel! There are only 2 fully inhabited houses: the forester’s house and a very big and beautiful one belonging to an Indian family. Ste Marguerite was fortified by Vauban. On the island, there are 2 cemeteries: one for the soldiers who died at the battle of Crimea in 1855 and one for the Muslim soldiers.

There is a nice museum inside the Fort where we can see amphoras, plates, vases from roman boats. There is also a prison with a famous cell, where the Iron Mask was locked.

From the island, you have a wonderful view on the Croisette, and all the way to Antibes.

THE CONFERENCES:

On Thursday, 5 professionals came to talk to us about their jobs. There was one supermarket director, one head hunter, one student in BTS, one shop owner and a lady who was launching her own business. We made 5 groups and spent 20 minutes talking to each professional; they talked about their mission, explained their jobs, their difficulties, their career. We asked them some questions such as : “what subject do you study on a BTS?” or “What is the mission of a director ?” “How much money do you need to start a business?”.

It was very enriching, it helped us to understand what the active life is.

THE SPEED RECRUITING:
On Thursday afternoon we got ready with our professional outfit, our CVs and our cover letters and we waited for the interviews. Each student had 2 interviews with 2 different professionals, about 10 minutes each. During the interviews, the consultants told us what we needed to upgrade  our CVs, our appearance and our speech. They gave us good advice and listened to our projects. They asked us why we wanted to work in their companies, what  qualities we had… They were happy to work with us and we were happy too because it was a different point of view from our teachers.

Thursday was a rich and interesting day and we were tired in the end.

THE  EVENINGS:

The first evening, we had some free time and played cards, listened to music...

The second evening, the teachers organized different games and the winners won small presents such as mugs, USB plugs, mobile holders, caps , note books….). The first game was a quiz on the island, then we had riddles; the 3rd game was to throw a paper ball in a basket and after that we mimed celebrities.

THE NAUTICAL  ACTIVITIES:

On Friday morning we did some kayaking from 9:30 to 12. The instructor showed us the positions and then we were alone in our kayak. We saw jellyfish, big boats and had a lot of fun.

CONCLUSION:

Here are a few impressions on the seminar and more precisely on Thursday.
“It was very useful; I’ve learnt a lot of things. The conferences are going to help me in the future.”  Erica

“It’s very good because we had professional testimonies and it’s motivating.” Stéphanie

“This Thursday was a very good experience for our future and for our school year. We know each other better now and each of us is going to improve their letters, their presentation or their CVs.”  Oliver and Myriam

This trip was very instructive. We learnt a lot on the active world and met very interesting people. Thanks to this experience, there is a good relationship between the students, we are more confident and more prepared to write our CVs or to go to interviews. We were sad to go back to Cannes and we would like to thank our teachers for the 3 days on Ste Marguerite.
